Yerevan Hrachia Acharian University (HAU) was established in 1991, February 22. It is the first private higher educational institution in Armenia to receive state accreditation and has 14 departments covering a broad range of disciplines. Students at the university have all the rights and privileges of state educational institutions prescribed by law.Since the academic year 2004-2005 the university has passed to the three-degree program of higher education and prepares specialists in Bachelor and Master of Arts degree programs. Since August 23, 2003 the University has launched a post-graduate program (Aspirantura). Doctoral students of the university can further update their professional knowledge and skills abroad, based on the international agreements signed between the HAU and a number of leading universities abroad. Since 2005 the University has won the right to provide feedback and consultation on doctoral students’ thesis defense in Foreign Languages, History and Economics. Since 1997 Hrachia Acharian University has launched the publication of a monthly newspaper “Arakyal”, which has won great popularity and appreciation among the students and the faculty. The university curriculum provides a complimentary program of advanced computer courses with a final certificate issued.  
The university has a faculty of 8 Academicians, 47 Doctor Professors and 106 PhDs. It holds the following research centers for: Genocide and Armenian Studies, Narekaci and Isahakyan Studies, Tagor Center for Indian Studies Center for Russian Studies after A. Griboyedov, Center for European Studies, Center for Iranian Studies Servantes Center for Greek Art and Linguistics. Located in the center of Yerevan, the university building provides all the necessary conditions to create a healthy academic and social environment for the students. It has well lit, and large auditoriums equipped with modern technologies.
